Klaus-Peter Döpfer

(Director, EPO)

Klaus-Peter Döpfer is a director of the Sector Healthcare, Biotechnology and Chemistry at the European Patent Office in Munich since 2007.
He started at the EPO in 1990 after having worked at the University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). 
He holds degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Medicine from the University of Halle-Wittenberg and did also some Legal Studies at the Fernuniversität Hagen.


Rob Chapman

(Patent Examiner, EPO)

Rob Chapman joined the EPO in 2008 as a patent examiner in the area of Immunotherapeutics (Vaccines and antibodies). In addition to searching, examining and classifying patent applications, Rob also examines opposition cases and provides training and seminars for the European Patent Academy. 
Rob studied medical biochemistry at the University of Sheffield (UK), where he also worked as a research scientist. He obtained his doctoral thesis from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (Germany) and worked as a research scientist at the Helmholtz Research Center for Environment and Health (Munich, Germany). He completed a Masters in Business Administration from the Open University (UK).


Oskar Lechner

(Patent Examiner, EPO)

Oskar Lechner works as patent examiner (examination & opposition) in Biotechnology (Antibodies & Vaccines) in Munich since 2003. He is also involved in the coaching and training of patent examiners.
He started at the EPO in 2001 after having worked as lab-leader for a private research company in the field of tumor immunology. Oskar received his PhD in microbiology at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the INSERM, Hopital Necker in Paris, France in diabetes immunology research.
