AIPLA Moot Court
The Giles Rich Moot Court Committee organizes the Northeastern Regional Competition of the AIPLA Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition. Named in honor of the distinguished patent law jurist, the issues addressed in the competition always focus on some area of intellectual property law. The Competition offers an opportunity for law students to develop and display their skills in written and oral advocacy. Students are evaluated on the basis of their briefs and on their performances during oral arguments. Students from every law school are invited to participate.
The Competition is divided into four national regional competitions, which are held in the early spring. The victorious teams from the regional competitions then face one another in the National Finals rounds, a few weeks later.
The participation of the Boston area's intellectual property law community is a vital part of the Competition. The attorneys who volunteer to judge oral arguments and evaluate student briefs find the Competition to offer a splendid opportunity to interact with students who are interested in the intellectual property field. In addition to guiding the development of the next generation of IP attorneys, the Competition is also an intellectually stimulating event and source of camaraderie in our community.
